One of the best-known benefits of a low-fat diet is the effect that it does on your blood vessel and your heart. It is of common knowledge that heart disease is the leading cause of death among American people. You may have heard it often that someone had a sudden heart attack and such attack has been greatly causing by improper dieting.

How fat is bad for us?

Ironically, most heart attacks have been a result of the changes which gradually occur to the circulatory system as years fold. Of the common changes that take place in so-called atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is the thickening and the hardening of the blood vessels because of the fatty and waxy substance which are accumulated and which are built up because of poor eating habits and sedentary kind of life that most American have. These fatty and waxy substances unduly restrict the normal flow of blood to the arteries which results in a myocardial infarction or that which we call a heart attack.

A low-fat diet greatly reduces the risk of high blood pressure which we all know as another major risk in the development of heart disease. If you are overweight, it is best to try a low-fat diet so that you can shed some of those excess pounds of body fat. Shedding all those pounds is a reliable way to bring down your body pressure and will stall future heart complications.

Trimming your fat using a low-fat diet will certainly help in controlling the pressure of the blood. Even with or without weight loss, a low-fat diet will still reduce blood pressure. This fact is strengthened by the observations made by those who study disease basing on the population of people – the epidemiologists. They observe that in underdeveloped countries where people eat more complex carbohydrates than fat, they are leaner than the people here in the States.

In a study undertaken on young women which have high levels of cholesterols, a mere five-month switch to low-fat diet have resulted in the less chance of blood clotting. This only shows that people who eat a high-fat diet have a greater tendency to develop some blocks on their arteries. By getting on a low-fat diet, there is a significant cutting of fats and thus, the risk of dying from heart complications is reduced to about thirty per cent.

Having a normal functioning of the circulatory system also have other benefits. According to several studies, men who are following a low-fat diet are less likely to suffer from impotence. When the arteries inside the body are gunked up with blood clotting and other substances, performance in sex is greatly affected. Also, clogging in the arteries have been one of the pointed causes of back pains. It was shown that the disks situated on the lower portion of the body deteriorate when arteries turned thicker. All the foregoing, especially clogging, are not without recourse and one of the best ways to prevent it is through a low-fat diet.
